About Location

Agra is famous as being home to one of the Seven Wonders of the world - The Taj Mahal. The architectural splendour of the Moslems, the fort and the palaces is a vivid reminder of the opulence of the legendary Mughal empire, of which Agra was the capital in the 16th and early 17th centuries. While it's significance as a political center ended with the transfer of the capital to Delhi in 1634 by Shah Jaha, it's architectural wealth has secured it's place on the international map.

A pleasant town with a comparatively slow pace, Agra is known for its superb inlay work on marble and soapstone by craftsmen who are descendants of those who worked under the Mughals. The city is also famous for it's carpets, gold thread embroidery and leather shoes.

Agra was founded by Raja Badal Singh around 1475 A.D. However the mention of Agraban in the Mahabharata suggests that it has been the sister Of Matura, an ancient city in the vicinity, from a very early period. Sikandar Lodi made this place his capital when the Lodis ruled North India. But according to an ancient legend, the name of Agra is derived from Agra vans of the twelve groves of Brijmandala, where teenager Lord Krishna is said to have sported with his companions. Situated on the banks of Yamuna, this town was chosen by the emperor Babar as a base for the Mughals.

We have stayed at the home stay 2 years in a row. The owners are the most friendly and lovely people. Our train was 4 hours late and we called in advance to let the owner know and it was no trouble. The rooms are spotlessly clean and you get a nice breakfast included in the room cost. Would recommend a stay here if in Agra visiting.Darren - Derby - U.K.

Great room, Home made breakfast and 15 minutes from the Taj Mahal! It's away from the busy centre in Agra, which makes it very peaceful. Restaurant Indiana is very good and 5 minutes away. We loved it and highly recommend this place! Annemie U.K.

I stayed one night in this place , and I can recommend it wholeheartedly. The place is a five mins drive from Taj Mahal and the Red Fort, but it is a little hard to find, so keep he phone number! Call when you are on the way in the taxi. The rooms are beautiful, superclean, superspacious, very comfortable. The management are very correct, can speak English, local languages and French fluently, and hey can give you information about all you want to know. What I really appreciated was the feeling of security, it is a place a had no problems to leave any valuables or important things for safekeeping. Very reliable. I chose to have homemade dinner there, a choice I do not regret at all - possibly one of the best meals I had in all India. They have wifi, but it does not work very well in the room, in the hallway, its fine. The little garden is a haven. And the wifi works well there. Bring cash. No ATMs very near....Ani T - Oslo-Norway

Finding a bed and breakfast anywhere in India is difficult but discovering this one made our stay in Agra. It is a little out of town and does not have a restaurant being a B&B but the cost of getting into town and back is around 300 r's so this does make it almost negligible. It is a clean, quiet oasis in a very dirty and busy city. Do talk to the owner, he does know what he is talking about and is very helpful    F.B. Birmingham - U.K.

PARFAIT ! Frank Berdin - France

Would definately recommend this Homestay located near the Taj Mahal. It was immaculately clean, with a quaint, well manicured garden. Agra itself is a bit dirty, but this place was a haven from all of that. Great place to unwind after the drive from Delhi. Staff are courteous and helpful. Would definately return! Only "complaint" is that there was no bottled water available in the room.James Brown - Milwaukee
